>Petting the Sting Rays

>
Its Family Fun Day at the Tropicana stadium so we took Davy to watch a little baseball. The free gift of the day was a Devil Ray’s lunch box, the old fashioned metal kind. right now it is being put to good use with Davy’s current baseball cards. We also waited in line to feed and pet the sting rays. To feed them put the small fish between your third and fourth fingers and then lay your hand face up in the water. The rays swim over the top and gobble up the fish. Davy will get to do that at another time. He did have fun however petting the sting rays.

>Catching (Devil) Rays

>
Davy enjoyed his first game of the season on a perfect Sunday afternoon. It would have been the perfect day for a retractable roof, but Tropicana Field has made some tremendous strides lately and is much more fun for the average fan. He was treated to one of the best starting pitching performances in the history of the franchise as James Shields struck out 12 Indians and gave up only two hits through 8 innings.

Then….the Rays bullpen let him down. Up 4-1 in the 9th, Stokes gave up 5 runs and the Rays lost the game. Terrible loss, but I don’t think that Davy will have to suffer through many more of these as the team really looks to be coming together. Great position players and great starting pitching (like Shields in this game) will make them a force to reckon with over the course of Davy’s childhood. Good time to become a Rays fan…

>Take me out to the ball game

>
Spring Training has arrived! It is a lazy Sunday afternoon and what could say “It’s March in Florida” more than to take Davy to a Grapefruit League game to see the Yankees play the Cleveland Indians at Legends Field.

It was a little warm out today and the sun beat down on us as we were on the third base side. Mom lathered the whole family down in sunblock. We bought Davy his first Yankee’s baseball hat and he had the good fortune of seeing some some of the greatest players of this generation. Late in the game, Jeter made a great play off of A-Rod’s boot and was able to throw the runner out from deep at short. Needless to say, the crowd went nuts.

We ate hot dogs and cheered with the crowd….. It is going to be a great year for baseball…..
