Let’s Ride the Waves

August 1: Monday

We have found that the most pleasant time to be at the beach is in the evening.  The sun is setting and not overly hot, there is a wonderful breeze, it’s not to crowded, and the children get to run and play before bed.  Tonight we took out all of the boogie boards, they are a big hit this year for all of the children.  The waves have been the perfect size for our little guys and the current hasn’t been to strong either…  :O)

Brandie, Laurence, and Ryla stopped by for a quick visit.  How cute are they on their 4 seater bike!

Swim lessons for Matty

We do not have a pool fence, but what we do have is a 1 year old who loves to play outside.  Matty is now 20 1/2 months old and 4 months ago we decided it was time to enroll him in swim lessons.  One of the first things that they teach the children is how to get out of the pool if they fall in; to find the wall.  Speaking of falling in… Matty has slipped in, fell in, been rolled in while driving his car, pushed in…and well if you can name it, it has probably happened.  I have had many panic attacks as well as sleepless nights worrying over him and the pool…but that is about to be over soon…

He is taking his swimming lessons at LaFleurs Gymnastics and swim and is currently in a mom and tot class.  There have been several occasions where I have not been able to make the lesson so Andy, Courtney, or Papa has stepped in and taken him.  He has been learning to kick kick his legs, reach and pull with his arms, dive for the toys, and jump off of the edge (or cannonball as he calls it).  Although we are still working on him finding and grabbing the edge, he is pretty good at swimming to people and the steps.  Not too much longer and he will be a perfect little swimmer…

Way to go Matty!!!….

Boating on Lake Fontana

This outing was one of the boy’s favorite on our trip this summer.  We rented a pontoon boat for half of a day from Alarka Boat Dock outside of Bryson City.  It was surprisingly cheap and a lot of fun.  Lake Fontana is surrounded by either the Smoky Mountain National Park or the Nantahala National Park so the scenery is breathtaking.  While boating we saw some of the most gorgeous homes that lined the Little Tennessee River.  We saw the Great Smoky Mountain train and the passengers waved to Davy.  He was so excited and waved back.  Several times we stopped the boat to swim;  the water was cool and refreshing… We were expecting it to be stone cold since it is winter runoff, but if we didn’t know any better we would have said that it was warmer than our pool.  All in all the half day was the perfect amount of time to spend on the boat.  Next time we will bring an inner-tube and a fishing pole…
